According to gphoto's list of supported cameras, Canon Powershot A560's aren't officially supported, but has anyone just tried it out to see if it works? _________________ RipOff, a CD Ripper for Linux |

I sent Canon an email asking if the "Powershot A560 is a mass storage device.
gphoto doesn't list all mass storage device cameras.
Any mass storage device works as a mountable disk drive.
Even if it is not, you can use a card reader that is a mass storage device. ![Smile :-)](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |

This is what Canon tech support said
Quote: | Unfortunately none of our cameras when connected to a computer are
recognized as a mass storage device. They are recognized as a imaging
device. I am sorry any inconvenience this may have caused you. |
This is a pretty useless answer.
I get the impression the tech support person doesn't know what mass storage is and is a very Windows-centric answer.
Hopefully you can find some mention of mass storage on the net. |

According to specs, Powershot A560 supports following interfaces:
Quote: |
Interfaces: USB 2.0 High Speed (Mini-B, MTP, PTP)
|
Which AFAIK means that it can be attached either through ptp protocol (which should be supported under gphoto, mtp protocol of which I don't know anything and eventually through plain usb protocol, as a mass storage device (much like pendrives & stuff). _________________ The clock is ticking, brothers and sisters, counting down to Armageddon. |

I just got this camera in the mail and it works fine with basic gphoto2 stuff. _________________ RipOff, a CD Ripper for Linux |
