It looks like the Beryl SVN ebuilds from the xeffects overlay are gone. Have I missed something? Has a major changed occurred within the last week or so?

Read the wiki/forums/etc on gentoo-xeffects...

http://www.gentoo-xeffects.org
http://forums.gentoo-xeffects.org

Beryl/Compiz have merged and Beryl live ebuilds have been replaced with the merged Beryl/Compiz (aka Compcomm) live ebuilds. Lots of details on the xeffects site regarding this.

So, why is Compiz required to install? I ask only because of it's autoconf error:

There's a missing config option in the ebuild for gconf enable/disable. It assumes you have gconf, but shouldn't. The ebuild needs to be fixed. For now, emerge gconf and then try again.

Oh, and compiz is part of the merged package. Look in the ebuild for compcomm (it's a meta package).
