Hi... i had the following problem:

Code:
Root NFS: no NFS server available, giving up
VFS: unable to mount root fs via NFS, trying floppy
VFS: insert root floppy and press enter
(enter)
End_Request: I/O error, dev fd0, sector 0
VFS: cannot open root device "sda4" or unknown-block (2,0)
Please append a correct "root=" boot option

Now i'm going to post some things that i wrote in the console

Do you know what did i did wrong when i compiled the kernel?

Another question... do you know if the driver of the sound card is okay?

I'm no expert with grub, but it sounds like you have grub pointing to the wrong partition. I would follow the advice that you were given and check that the root= command actually points to the correct disk/partition.

Also you didn't specify what file system root is using. Make sure that what ever file system you are using has been compiled directly into the kernel and has not been compiled as a module.

Are you really sure you have specified the correct kernel parameter?
Code:
title=Gentoo Linux 2.6.20-r8
# Partition where the kernel image (or operating system) is located
root (hd0,1)
kernel /boot/kernel-2.6.20-gentoo-r8 root=/dev/sda4 noapic apic=off nofb

root (hd0,1) usually means /dev/sda2 and as I can see the path to your kernel starts with /boot, so obviously you also don't have a separate /boot partition.
Could you post the output of fdisk -l? And which filesystem do you use for your / partition?

OK, I think your grub.conf should work, but probably there is a problem with your kernel.
Code:
Root NFS: no NFS server available, giving up
VFS: unable to mount root fs via NFS, trying floppy
VFS: insert root floppy and press enter
(enter)
End_Request: I/O error, dev fd0, sector 0
VFS: cannot open root device "sda4" or unknown-block (2,0)
Please append a correct "root=" boot option

You have the following option in your kernel config:
Code:
CONFIG_ROOT_NFS=y

This option means that the kernel expects that the root filesystem is mouted via NFS and as you have a local root filesystem I don't think you should use this option. Try disabling CONFIG_ROOT_NFS and recompile your kernel.

OK, I think your grub.conf should work, but probably there is a problem with your kernel.
Code:
Root NFS: no NFS server available, giving up
VFS: unable to mount root fs via NFS, trying floppy
VFS: insert root floppy and press enter
(enter)
End_Request: I/O error, dev fd0, sector 0
VFS: cannot open root device "sda4" or unknown-block (2,0)
Please append a correct "root=" boot option

You have the following option in your kernel config:
Code:
CONFIG_ROOT_NFS=y

This option means that the kernel expects that the root filesystem is mouted via NFS and as you have a local root filesystem I don't think you should use this option. Try disabling CONFIG_ROOT_NFS and recompile your kernel.

Can i take my compiled kernel and modify it and recompile it?

EDIT: if I write make menuconfig i will have the things that I saved?

Your last kernel configuration is stored in /usr/src/linux/.config, so you can load this file in menuconfig.

Now i have the following problem:

Code:
VFS: cannot open root device "sda4" or unknown-block (0,0)
Please append to correct "root=" boot option
Kernel-panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block (0,0)

I think that it automounts the things wrong
Another way to solve it?

Code:
livecd gentoo # cat /mnt/gentoo/etc/fstab
# /etc/fstab: static file system information.
#
# noatime turns off atimes for increased performance (atimes normally aren't
# needed; notail increases performance of ReiserFS (at the expense of storage
# efficiency).  It's safe to drop the noatime options if you want and to
# switch between notail / tail freely.
#
# The root filesystem should have a pass number of either 0 or 1.
# All other filesystems should have a pass number of 0 or greater than 1.
#
# See the manpage fstab(5) for more information.
#

# <fs>                  <mountpoint>    <type>          <opts>          <dump/pass>

# NOTE: If your BOOT partition is ReiserFS, add the notail option to opts.

that's not related to /etc/fstab but to what root= you did put as kernel parameter in grub
do you have:
-2 computers
-2 nic card
-one cross cable or 2 simple cable and a switch

try sending us the output of netconsole or capture the output of the kernel messages in order to see if it detects the disk because it could be:
-the fact that the controller isn't detected
-the fact that the filesystem of your disk isn't inside the kernel

Your kernel won't boot because it is missing the low-level drivers for your SATA controller(s).

The drivers you need are here.
Code:
Device Drivers  --->
  SCSI device support  --->
    <*> SCSI disk support

Device Drivers  --->
  Serial ATA (prod) and Parallel ATA (experimental) drivers  --->
    <*>   NVIDIA SATA support
    <*>   AMD/NVidia PATA support
