I'm a newbie when it comes to Gentoo (and more or less Linux at a whole, even though I've used it quite a bit). What I have now, is a working Gentoo installation installed from the Live CD, since it didn't recognise my WLAN or LAN card during install.
Some while ago, I tried downloading the right drivers on the windows partition of the computer, and copied them over in Gentoo and tried to install. I gave up after a while, when it kept complaining about more and more missing stuff. I want to try again, but with a little help.
What I have is a gigabit network card: Realtek RTL8168/8111 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC and a WLAN card: Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG. The most important thing to get up is the network card, but I'd like the wlan card up also sooner or later.
What drivers to I need to download, what extra stuff (my installation is that of the Live CD, and not updated after that), and how do I install it? I'm asking for pointers here, and I realize that it's a bit like asking someone to fix it for me. But to be able to get started and learn, I need som good pointers and a little help.
Thanks for all tips and help. |
