I'm having this problem as well. Is there a graceful way to get past it until kode is available?

Yes! It's been described on the thread. I followed jmbsvicetto's advice and copied the kode-3.5.6.ebuild to kode-3.5.7.ebuild and then digested it, like so:
Code:
mercury ~ # cd /usr/portage/kde-base/kode
mercury kode # cp kode-3.5.6.ebuild kode-3.5.7.ebuild
mercury kode # ebuild kode-3.5.7.ebuild digest
Appending /usr/portage to PORTDIR_OVERLAY...
>>> Creating Manifest for /usr/portage/kde-base/kode
mercury kode #
Actually, I had to do this for several packages, but that's the general technique.

Actually, I was wrong.

This package as a few others haven't changed from 3.5.6 to 3.5.7. All the correct dep strings should now be in place. For those to work, users running the stable branch need to stop unmasking kde packages with =<package>-3.5.7 and use =<package-3.5*> on /etc/portage/package.keywords.

[edit]Corrected wrong syntax - one should use =<package>-3.5* and not ~<package>-3.5*[/edit]

You were right at one point, though, because there were some dependencies in the newly released 3.5.7 ebuilds for nonexistent packages (e.g., kode-3.5.7). I knew it would be cleaned up, though.

if you would like to upgrade from 3.5.5 to 3.5.7 then you should unmerge kmail and kdesktop first

Vegan,

in case you haven't read the last updates to the bug, that bug ended up being caused by some apps in the xeffects overlay - probably compiz or beryl.

You should open a bug about this if it isn't caused by the kdeenablefinal use flag. Also try building kdelibs with MAKEOPTS="-j1".

Just wanted you to know I'm running it (AMD64) without any problems. Stable as far as I'm concerned, or will we wait 'til 4.0 is out? :D

Hi,

here my desktop. The left panel automatically hides. It comes back when I touch the left border of the screen but on the full length of the screen. In kde 3.5.6 it was only on the border of the visible part of the panel. This I prefer. Any idea how to set this?

Since updating i have couple of problems.

1. kontact crashes on loading Basket (integrated) then won't start at all, kmail does not integrate?

2. Nothing visible when loading kmail config window, loads config window ok, can see buttons and thin white to left but nothing else?

cheers

hi!

just want to upgrade from 3.5.5 to 3.5.7.
but when using the command: "emerge -av kdebase-startkde" only kde-base/kdebase-startkde-3.5.5 is available to install.
any suggestions?

thx.

Make sure you have --synced, and that you have keyworded kdebase-startkde ~arch, as 3.5.7 is in the tree.

thx a lot! it works.

but why is it necessary to put kdebase-startkde ~arch manually in the tree?

Because it is not stable on any architectures yet. See Mixing Stable with Testing in the Gentoo Handbook.

It's a very long-aged dependency bug.

emerge --oneshot kdnssd-avahi

should fix it. :)

This is begging to be asked:

is there a timeline for this to go stable? Even 3.5.6 is still under a keyword mask. Will it ever be released? Obviously at this point I'd rather see .7, but I think this last cycle has been much slower than previous ones. .5 has some bugs I'm not fond of that I know are fixed....

Before you tell me to stop whining and unmask it, there's a lot to unmask and AFAIK no way to do it without adding 150 rules to your unmask file/directory. Plus I tried it and ran into a dependency hell that gave me flashbacks of Red Hat, which is good reason for it not to be released ;) but then what's holding up the other packages?

No, I'm not trying to start a flame war, I honestly want to know if I should be holding my breath.

If it is simply a matter that you do not want to manually add the packages to package.keywords, try using app-portage/autounmask as described in the topic "autounmask - unmasking packages the easy way".
