i have a problem with the installation from the livecd
the compile_output.log.failed say
Code:
FATAL: Could not open /lib/modules/2.6.19-gentoo-r5/

why i need the livecd:
i need the livecd because i want to do a networkless install because i don't want to spend hours compiling...i only need to set-up this box to use xsane because ubuntu's xsane doesn't work well in "copy" mode:
-ubuntu 6.06's xsane has bugs
-ubuntu 7.07 's xsane doesn't work
-gentoo's xsane seems to work well
the problem is that i can't block the computer for hours for the compilation because people are using it...
so the only option is the livecd,..

what i did
i used the gui because in the 2006.1 it was more stable than the ncurses installer
i used the networkless installation

What was the package that failed? Is it a package that installs a kernel module or depends on the existence of kernel modules? Try copying the /lib/modules directory from the livecd to the chroot.

If you are installing with the networkless option, then I think that installs a precompiled kernel, and no kernel sources.

The problem with that is you can't compile/install any external kernel modules (it seems like that is the error you are getting).

Hey, I have the same problem (Gentoo 2007.0, livecd, networkless)

Today I tried to install gentoo and I got the message:
Quote:
FATAL: Could not open /lib/modules/2.6.19-gentoo-r5/modules.dep.temp for writing: Read-only file system

The /lib is symlink to /mnt/lifecd/lib which is mounted in read-only mode. I don't have anything special in my PC, usb mouse, usb modem (but I tried to install without modem too) and that's all...

What is more when I now try to start installation the system freezes (sometimes during boot, sometimes when gentoo creates stage3 or mounts disks). I can only restart computer.

Google told me something about problem with 'depmod' but I don't seen anything about depmod in logs...

How can I fix it? :?
