Hi!
I got to present a video that I recorded. I pluged the beamer cable, and no worries, my desktop appears on the screen. But then, I tried to launch a video... I tried with several player, all of them show me black screen on the video player window (only the beamer didn't show me the video, I could still see it on my laptop). Why it didn't work?
I got to do another presentation so I would be happy if it can work out of the box.
Don't worry, I achieved it but only with kino (with the "gdk" option set, and then it works, so it might be with the xv otpion that there is a problem, but... i'm stuck).
Note that video in firefox, video like youtube also worked.
NB: Note that my mates got more problem with windows (the worst was vista with really strange color on screen) and mac (cable issue) than me and my penguin...
NB2:Using ati-drivers (x300 card) with a vanilla-kernel. I don't know which other information might be useful... (xorg.conf maybe?) _________________ Unreleased Kollektiv

I can't help you with the actual problem but I might clarify something to make it
easier for non German speakers to understand what your problem is.
Coltie is not talking about his BMW here but about his video projector. The German
word "Beamer" is derived from the English "beam" which makes German speakers
assume that it is an actual English word.
So the problem is the movies not showing on the video projector. |

I tried your coordinates on a map and it looked like it was French speaking Switzerland.
However, I didn't know that in French you would use beamer, too. Or is that only true for
Switzerland? |

Hi
[OFF] "beamer" is used at least in Romandie (french part of Switzerland), don't know for the rest of the french speaking world...
[ON] Though looking through the web with video projecter didn't give the answer I was looking for.
I realized it is still probably something to do xv or x whatever... but I'm completly a noob in video stuff so... please help! Where should I look first? On a post that I can't find anymore, I read that the video is "produced" by the video card and the desktop is "procduced" by the cpu or something else. The video card sending the video only to one output...
Ok, but then, how do I correct this?
Just think that I should have post my xorg.conf earlier...

Which ATi-Drivers are you using?
Look here: http://wiki.cchtml.com/index.php/8.36.5 ; at the last point:
Quote: | There is no support for video playback on the second head in dual head mode. Further details can be found in topic number 737-26985. |
Perhaps you've that problem?
If you've VLC installed, you could look in the "Video"Menu, there should be an option, where you can set the screen...
Do you have mplayer installed? In the mplayer options you can set, what output part/api (for example sdl, opengl, ...) mplayer should use, perhaps would help for mplayer? |

Hi!
I'm using the [8.33.6] version of the ati-drivers.
Thank's for the link, I didn't know the existence of the such a site...
Anyway, I'm gonna try vlc and its options as soon as possible (next week...)
EDIT: ok, no solution found (looks like it's impossible with the ati driver for now), I give up as I probably won't need to use a video projecter soon... (and there is a workaround for vlc and kino (though I don't really like them) with the gdv option) thank's for the help _________________ Unreleased Kollektiv
