|
|
I'm using Pidgin 2.0.0, almost solely for MSN IM. In the MSN protocol, people can define their own smiley to be used in conversations. Pidgin nicely interprets those and shows the userdefined smiley inline. But how can I create/use my own? Or is that not in Pidgin's capabilities? |

Currently it's not possible. You could have found that yourself too. |

Thanks for the information, although you could have told me without the smartass remark. (Believe me, I *have* googled quite a bit, but being able to see other people's custom icons led me to believe I was missing something). |

So not what I'm looking for. |

Ah, I see what you're looking for. Sorry for not understanding the question originally. As far as I know that isn't supported in pidgin, but I believe aMSN has that support. You might look into using that instead.

Agreed. It is skinnable though so you might find one that fits in with whatever your desktop theme is. But yes, by default, Tcl/Tk is ugly. |

This is most interesting what you say. I've been sticking to gaim / pidgin for its superior stability and looks as opposed to amsn's uglyness and unreliability...
However I've found that not seeing custom smileys heavily decreases my communication skills... It's true, I don't see them. I'd do pretty well without creating my own theme, given that I see the themes others use. However, I don't.
And you said that pidgin renders others' custom smileys for you. What version are you using? Have you enabled something I didn't? _________________ You kinda have to sneak up on a mac...

at first, you should upgrade to the latest version. i think, receiving custom emoticons is what you mean and this works fine here with pidgin 2.2.2.
for sending them, have a look here: ticket
