|
|
http://developer.berlios.de/projects/gift-fasttrack
Has any of you seen this? It has recently been updated and it claims to support searching and downloading from FastTrack. I was reluctant to run its own Makefile as it is trying to install in weird places and is not consistent with my giFT-cvs install (even tries to install giFT I think). The only thing that needs to be compiled is the plugin though, since we've already got giFT itself.
So any of you brave people... |

Lots of talk about the plugin in this thread:
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=41548&start=50
about halfway down that page, somebody contributed an ebuild that will download and install the latest giFT and fasttrack plugin from CVS. I'm going to try it this morning. |

There's a link to a i586 compiled binary of that plugin in the forums (of
the page you linked us to, not gentoo forums), you should try that...I'll
as soon as this compiles. |

Just ran this ebuild.
Added the fasttrack plugin to my gift.conf and I am now looking at 3999775 users online. |

kickass...who would have expected that from the innocent giFT
those 200-1000 users ( changed very quickly when a new version was introduced ) seem so romantic now |

I tried the ebuild mentioned above and can't get the fasttrack part to compile.
Error:
Package libgift was not found in the pkg-config search path.
Perhaps you should add the directory containing `libgift.pc'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
No package 'libgift' found
gcc -I. -Icrypt -Wall -Wno-unused -fomit-frame-pointer -c -o fst_fasttrack.o fst_fasttrack.c
In file included from fst_fasttrack.c:17:
fst_fasttrack.h:46:29: libgift/libgift.h: No such file or directory
In file included from fst_fasttrack.c:17:
fst_fasttrack.h:48: parse error before "fst_int8"
lots more errors....
libgift.pc is in work/giFT/lib but seems fasttrack can't find it. Ideas ? |

Perhaps the giFT developers radically changed something (surprise, surprise) and the developers of the FastTrack plugin need to catch up. Not sure though. Perhaps the library doesn't get compiled by default and the ebuild needs to get changed, but since fst_fasttrack.h tries to include libgift.h that wouldn't make much sense either.
I'm too tired to look into it, perhaps tomorrow. _________________ [img:39112bbc59]http://www.gamers-portal.de/images/yay.gif[/img:39112bbc59] |

Forgive my supreme ignorance, but how on earth did you do that?!
I've cvs'ed the latest gift, it does say something about Gnutella plugins, etc., in the initial configuration, but I'm searching on how to add the fasttrack plugin, no go.
Thanks for assistance. |

I have the gift-cvs-0.10.0-r2 ebuild installed (cvs version is from last week sometime) and the Fasttrack plugin works great. There is no search more, but never fear! Just start downloading and press "find sources" like crazy. You can get even more sources than with KazaaLite K++.
All I changed was I added FastTrack to the list of plugins in my gift.conf file. But I think you have to leave OpenFT in. It didn't seem to work for me if I removed the OpenFT plugin, although maybe it did I just didn't wait long enough. |

Now all we need is giftoxic to get updated in portage...
It's 0.0.9 at the moment, but...
Code: | mightymax root # emerge giftoxic -p
These are the packages that I would merge, in order:
Calculating dependencies ...done!
[ebuild R ] net-p2p/giftoxic-0.0.5 |

Is the new giFToxic any better? I tried the one in portage and it sucked. If I changed what I wanted to search for, it ignored it and just kept searching for my original search terms. Very lame. Did anything major change from 0.0.5 to 0.0.9? It would be easy to update the ebuild, especially if it has a simple build procedure. I'm at work using Windows right now, so I can't do much, but someone should create a bug about the fact that we need a new ebuild, if this hasn't been done yet. I can submit a new ebuild sometime soon, it should take just a few minutes. |

I'm looking at the 0.0.9 tarball, and the developers say to run ./autogen.sh inside the unpacked tarball, but I see no autogen.sh script?
I just ssh'd to my home computer and looked at the 0.0.5 ebuild for giftoxic and it looks dead easy. It should be possible to just rename the ebuild to giftoxic-0.0.9.ebuild, re-do the digest and ebuild. Of course if you have your own /usr/local/portage, stick it in there and do it. Then submit it to bugs.gentoo.org |

I just renamed the ebuild to 0.0.9 and the fetch, unpack, compile, and merge steps all seemed to work just fine. I can't run it over SSH though, the connection is too slow. If someone with CVS access reads this, can you make a copy of the giFToxic ebuild in net-p2p and rename it to 0.0.9. Then add the ~x86 keyword as well please. Thanks. |

Somebody already submitted an ebuild for giFToxic 0.0.9 (and yes, it's basically a 1:1 copy ) and it should be in Portage soon. _________________ [img:39112bbc59]http://www.gamers-portal.de/images/yay.gif[/img:39112bbc59] |

Cool. Speaking of that, do you know how ebuilds make their way from bugs to portage? I have two ebuilds I submitted to bugszilla but nothing's happened to them. |

Well, usually a user submits them, then a package maintainer looks at them to check if they work/are a mess/whatever and if they are ok the package maintainer submits them to Portage (or, if you're a wannabe package maintainer like me, you send an email to your mentor ). If you post the bug numbers I'll take a look at them. _________________ [img:39112bbc59]http://www.gamers-portal.de/images/yay.gif[/img:39112bbc59] |

Ah, thanks darktux. My emerge of that ebuild was not getting through because it couldn't stat the fasttrack directory. Even when I manually cvs, it never downloads anything relating to fasttrack. And whoo, I'm trying to manually cvs again, and the server appears to be down!
And hey, how come we don't like giFTcurs? It's so quality.

giFTcurs rules. Most functional ASCII console program besides Nethack. Anything in GTK2 should be able to surpass it eventually however, if it is done right. So far though, the options aren't great. I'm looking forward to trying out the new giFToxic. I hope it is at least functional this time. |

endgamer: are you using the ~x86 ebuild of gift-cvs? You shouldn't need to do any funky stuff to get fasttrack going. It should get the sources from CVS for you. |
