Wireless card not detected

I'm running into problems with my wifi card, I'm using a laptop. When the laptop is running on the battery, the wifi card doesn't seem to be enabled at all; when I plug it in, its able to see it.

Using the Intel 3945ABG, wifi works perfectly when I'm plugged in, but I haven't been able to use it when running with a battery.

are you using a special power-saving runlevel when running on battery?
