Not sure if this is in the right forum but here it goes.

I'm wondering why my framebuffer vesafb driver doesn't find my DDC transfer support. I have an eVGA 6800 Ultra AGP card using DVI to DVI. Monitor is a Dell 2707WFP. Any ideas? I've seached the forums but can't find anything about this.

I get this in my dmesg (notice the line, hardware doesn't support DDC):
Code:

Linux agpgart interface v0.101 (c) Dave Jones
agpgart: Detected VIA KT880 chipset
agpgart: AGP aperture is 16M @ 0xe0000000
vesafb: NVIDIA Corporation, nv40 Board - p201-12 , Chip Rev    (OEM: NVIDIA)
vesafb: VBE version: 3.0
vesafb: protected mode interface info at c000:ce20
vesafb: pmi: set display start = c00cce56, set palette = c00ccec0
vesafb: pmi: ports = 3b4 3b5 3ba 3c0 3c1 3c4 3c5 3c6 3c7 3c8 3c9 3cc 3ce 3cf 3d0 3d1 3d2 3d3 3d4 3d5 3da
vesafb: VBIOS/hardware doesn't support DDC transfers
vesafb: no monitor limits have been set
vesafb: scrolling: ywrap using protected mode interface, yres_virtual=2560
Console: switching to colour frame buffer device 128x48
fbsplash: console 0 using theme 'emergence'
fbsplash: switched splash state to 'on' on console 0
vesafb: framebuffer at 0xb0000000, mapped to 0xf8880000, using 10240k, total 262144k
fb0: VESA VGA frame buffer device

my kernel grub line:
Code:
kernel /gentoo-2.6.17 root=/dev/sda3  video=vesafb:ywrap,mtrr:2,1024x768-24@60 splash=verbose,theme:emergence console=tty1

And when i run ddccontrol -p I get:
Code:

Probing for available monitors.I/O warning : failed to load external entity "/usr/share/ddccontrol-db/monitor/DELD013.xml"
Document not parsed successfully.
......
Detected monitors :
 - Device: pci:01:00.0-1
   DDC/CI supported: Yes
   Monitor Name: VESA standard monitor
   Input type: Digital
  (Automatically selected)
Reading EDID and initializing DDC/CI at bus pci:01:00.0-1...
I/O warning : failed to load external entity "/usr/share/ddccontrol-db/monitor/DELD013.xml"
Document not parsed successfully.

...but then here it says DDC is supported.

ddccontrol tells me to run a command because my monitor is not support it and submit it to ddccontrol mailing list. So I'll do that, but that's just for some lookup file i believe.

Does anybody know anything DDC and what this error message is?

Thanks

Well, i looked into what DDC actual is, and looks like it doesn't even matter. Its a way to control your monitors brightness, contrast, sharpness, position, etc with software instead of using the actual buttons on your monitor via its OSD. So not a biggie, I don't need this to work.
