|

Hi!
I recently bought a stand-alone divx player and i cannot play a specific movie. The player shows the message "No Codec".
The video and audio codec information, shown by mplayer -identify or tcprobe are the same of other movies which play well on the player.
Code: |
$ tcprobe -i movie.avi
[tcprobe] RIFF data, AVI video
[avilib] V: 23.976 fps, codec=XVID, frames=137651, width=736, height=400
[avilib] A: 48000 Hz, format=0x2000, bits=0, channels=6, bitrate=448 kbps,
[avilib] 137629 chunks, 321502680 bytes, CBR
[tcprobe] summary for /media/movie.avi, (*) = not default, 0 = not detected
import frame size: -g 736x400 [720x576] (*)
frame rate: -f 23.976 [25.000] frc=1 (*)
audio track: -a 0 [0] -e 48000,0,6 [48000,16,2] -n 0x2000 [0x2000] (*)
bitrate=448 kbps
length: 137651 frames, frame_time=41 msec, duration=1:35:41.199
|
Any suggestions on why this happens? Where should I look for the problem?
Thanks in advance. |

a lot of standalone players won't play divx/xvid that were encoded with qpel (quarterpixel something or other) or gmc (global motion compensation) enabled. i think avidemux can tell you if qpel was used in encoding, not sure about how to detect gmc. |

Thank you very much for your reply.
I used avidemux to get that information, as you suggested, but the movie wasn't encoded neither with Quarter Pixel nor with GMC. It has packed bitstream to yes, i don't know if that matters.
Comparing once again the info on this video with the ones of movies that plays well, i can't get the difference. It must be subtle... |

After some experiments reencoding the movie with different parameters, i found out that the problem was in the dimensions of the movie's frames.
Resizing the movie's frames to 640 (instead of 700) makes the stand-alone divx player read it.
All there is to know now is the limit for the movie's frames dimensions. I read the full specifications of the stand-alone player but i couldn't find anything about it. |
