This project was started mainly as an user oriented overlay.There's a good collection of bleeding edge and stable packages in the overlay.
We have tried to keep all the packages which someone might want in the overlay. To try the overlay

1.) Using Layman
Code:
layman -a arcon

2.)Direct Subversion access
svn co https://arcon.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/arcon/trunk/overlay portage-arcon

3.)To browse the overlay from browser
http://arcon.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/arcon/trunk/overlay

As we have tried to make it as user oriented as possible its useless without user feedback and support.
If you want an ebuild to be requested or have a bug report or some other problem you can contact us through irc or though arcon website
Irc

small reorganisation in arcon...

1) irc channel moved to #arcon @ irc.freenode.net so should be easier accessible especially for #gentoo channel users ;)

2) overlay can be directly fetch using this command: svn co https://arcon.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/arcon/trunk/overlay portage-arcon

3) using layman, see http://arcong.ath.cx/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=16&Itemid=30

4) and browse it here: http://arcon.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/arcon/trunk/overlay

More info here: http://arcong.ath.cx/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=16&Itemid=30

It is visible in layman.
It will either be as arcon. If you can't see it use the -k option

It wasn't spam. I was requesting explicit paludis support, they could have said yes or no or go to hell but you certainly had nothing to do with it and there was nothing to mod. E.g. there's nothing wrong in informing Shaumux of this:

Code:
-(~)-------------------------------------------------------------(lepaca@animebox-duo)-
`--> playman -l | grep arcon
.-(~)------------------------------------------------------------(lepaca@animebox-duo)-
`-->

I'm sure they want to reach as many people as they can and no entry in playman (whatever the reason) plus no example of /etc/paludis/repositories/arcon.conf ready to copy/paste makes it a little more difficult to reach paludis users, especially lazy ones like me. Now, where's the spam in that?

I don't recall deleting a post about paludis and this overlay. I can't precise now, but I believe my comment was about deleting some totally unrelated post by a spammer.
If I indeed deleted your post about paludis, I apologize for that. I very rarely delete posts and only when they are spam as everything else I split and move to dustbin. Therefore, I'm a bit surprised. My apologies.

Everybody makes mistakes but no problem but jmbsvicetto maybe your wordings the last time confused him.
I was confused myself as to was it spam or for real.
Any it was my mistake and the paludis and playman support will be introduced and inforfed here and on the site too.

Try making/editing /etc/paludis/repositories/paludis-extras.conf:

And add this into that file:

Code:
location = ${ROOT}/var/paludis/tepositories/arcon-overlay
master_repository = gentoo
sync =  https://arcon.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/arcon/trunk/overlay
cache = /var/empty
format = ebuild
importance = 10
names_cache = ${location}/.cache/names

DON"T FORGET TO ADJUST LOCATION!

"paludis-extras.conf" is not the best chosen name for it because there exists a paludis-extras repository.I propose to name it "arcon.conf" or similar.

If arcon.conf or arcon-portage.conf works that would be the best i guess then.

I have never used paludius, never tried it.
The best would be if someone who use it or even better, develop would instruct us ;)

However we can try few differentways, maybe one of them will work...
We officially do not support Paludius (yet). The main reason for is that it's not supported by Gentoo. This does not mean we will never support it.

If anyone uses the overlay and the KDE Packages included for Pertty, Kickoff, etc, these are from the Xeffects overlay. Unfortunately, we will not be able to support these as the ebuilds would indicate, as they are outside our overlay. Please be sure to contact arcon-portage overlay maintainers for any issues.

The maintainer should probably post something up about this on their web page. The ebuilds from the Xeffects included in the arcon-portage overlay should either include a Changelog (as ours is not included for some reason) to this effect or modify the ebuilds as well to reflect this.

There have been complaints in the past from users posting bugs to the general bugs.gentoo.org for ebuilds from the xeffects overlay, and I have gone to great lengths to ensure our ebuilds are clean and things get fixed quickly. It's now possible that new bugs could get opened and xeffects would get blamed, and this is not desirable.

Anything you can do to make this cleaner would be much appreciated.

Cheers

All of the ebuilds taken from xeffects are kept in sync with xeefects
But the users should report any bugs from the ebuilds in arcon overlay to either the forum or bugtracker at the arcon overlay website and not at the xeffects website.

It will be determined if the problem is with the arcon overlay or really with xeffect ebuild and forwarded if necessary.
It is important to do so to avoid giving the xeffects developers and maintainer useless hassels and pressure

I've added TONS of games from this topic. Thanks to frostworks work.

Also there is up-2-date ebuild for smplayer-0.5.5x (will be 0.5.6x soon) with qt4 support and smplayer-themes. It's the best (IMHO) frontend for mplayer.

smplayer-0.5.60 is out and there also is live SVN ebuild for it.

Also added cplay with queue patch and musepack support. Happy testing!

hm, are those ebuild actually updated to the new addresses as they were supposed to be ?
I really don't have a clue what changed in the adresses / if it's still hosted on the same server - if at all

many thanks in advance

update2:
my bad, deleting the git-src directory under distfiles did the trick, change of git.eclass - ...
sorry for the false accusations :wink:

arcon should work now without this ugly line added to "overlays" section in /etc/layman/layman.cfg. (-:

First post should be updated today (I hope so).

@Belliash:

could you please counter-check the ebuild of avant-window-navigator-extras in arcon overlay and mine: http://www.kerneloftruth.neucode.org/other/awn-extras/

some time ago I had to modify it (from xeffects overlay) to make it build, unfortunately I don't know anymore what exactly caused it to fail anymore, but it still builds and probably needs newer addresses (urls)

so if you'd like to add it to arcon overlay go ahead :)

the overly seems to be broken (or I understand nothing to overlay, this is most possible)

localhost ~ # layman -a arcon
* Running command "/usr/bin/svn co "https://arcon.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/arcon/trunk/overlay//" "/usr/portage/local/layman/arcon""...
svn: PROPFIND request failed on '/svnroot/arcon/trunk/overlay'
svn: PROPFIND of '/svnroot/arcon/trunk/overlay': could not connect to server (https://arcon.svn.sourceforge.net)
* Failed to add overlay "arcon".
* Error was: Adding the overlay failed!

SVN at sourceforge is down so arcon is down as a consequence.
Sorry or inconvenience.

cvs firefox3 (minefield) needing nspr-4.7.0_rc2... :(

Quote:
emerge -pv minefield

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies |
emerge: there are no ebuilds to satisfy ">=dev-libs/nspr-4.7.0_rc2".
(dependency required by "www-client/minefield-9999-r4" [ebuild])

nice to have your overlay back btw :)
