I am part way through installing Gentoo Linux on a PII 333Mhz machine, which is not connected to the internet. I have another PC running Win XP which has a dialup internet connection. I have got as far as getting the latest packages. Each time I do this I find it needs another file that I need to download. What I was wondering, is there a way to find out all the files required before trying to install them? I seem to get so far and find out it needs another file, download it then start again, which doesn't seem to be the most efficient way of doing it!!!

I know that emerge-up world lists the packages, but it doesn't list the required files.

Also I have a live CD for the install. Every time I boot the PC, it seems that all the files I have extracted have been deleted. Is there any way to leave it the way it was without undoing all the hard work I have done????

If both of your machines have NIC's you could use Internet Connection Sharing on your Windows machine. This would allow the Gentoo machine to transparently download through your dialup connection.
