|
|
I can set the display manager in /etc/conf.d/xdm to be xdm. Then I set the window manager in /etc/rc.conf. After I have logged in I get the window manager I asked for.
I can also set the display manager to be SLiM. After a successful login, though, no windows are displayed: not from IceWM, twm or anything. I am just returned to the SLiM login screen. How do you specify the window manager to use from SLiM?

Last time I checked with SLiM, they had a bug where the window manager wouldn't be set. Something like choices of 1) Xfce, 2) KDE, 3) Gnome, but on default, SLiM would use the 0th WM. I wonder if they've fixed that by now. If not, try hitting F2 (I think) and see if that gives you a menu to choose from. |

F10 will bring up the session screen to choose your wm/de while your at login. _________________ AMD 64 3000+

Thanks Vegan, Master Chef and c0vert.

I think I can confirm that the bug remains. In /etc/slim.conf
Code: | login_cmd exec /bin/bash -login ~/.xinitrc icewm |
works, but the original
Code: | login_cmd exec /bin/bash -login ~/.xinitrc %session | does not.

Incidentally, this Gentoo thing just rocks. Before bed I go emerge abiword. It goes away and installs 80 odd dependencies and the AbiWord. Then in the morning I have AbiWord, grammar checking and everything working beautifully. The amount of time I spent doing just that on Slackware is embarrassing - and I failed.
