Well its almost in passing really, since this can be done with any system and any distro, but the HOWTO is drawn from a gentoo-wiki page! Anyone try this, have any comments on its execution? _________________ ...and it should be known by now |

I played with this about a year ago, worked fine.
I have a radeon 9250 with 256 mb vram, however ati only makes the chipset with 128 mb, the extra 128 is added by the vendor and xorg has never been able to use it.
lspci -v lists two seperate devices for this, so I used the pci address from that to set up the block device.
It works, and I think I got about 200 MB/sec transfer rates via hdparm.
(It was fun when I used the wrong pci address at first, running mke2fs on the memory module xorg was using...)
Only thing is though, a 128 mb ram disk is of little practical use to me. _________________ "You have to invite me in" |
