I have no idea what's going on here. Easiest for me to just show the code, so:
Code: | > emerge -p world
These are the packages that I would merge, in order.
Calculating world dependencies ...done!
> emerge -p --emptytree world
These are the packages that I would merge, in order.
Calculating world dependencies ...done!
> emerge -p --emptytree system
These are the packages that I would merge, in order.
Calculating system dependencies ...done!
> emerge --emptytree system
Calculating system dependencies ...done!
* Regenerating GNU info directory index...
* Processed 75 info files.
> emerge -p --emptytree xmms
These are the packages that I would merge, in order.

> emerge -p --emptytree vim

My system was acting a little strange, with missing libs and such, so I figured that I'd try to upgrade everything (not gcc 3, yes). Portage says version 2.0.1. I re-merged it just to be safe. No problems there. Anyone know what's going on here? |

i think you are seeing a bug in portage, specificially it seems that 2.0.1 had a broken empty-tree command. there is now 2.0.3, it seems to have this functioning much better now.
