I'm getting the following errors when I try to start x. I recently switched from vesa to nvidia.

From syslog
Code:
Jun 15 14:05:07 localhost kdm: :0[5394]: IO Error in XOpenDisplay
Jun 15 14:05:07 localhost kdm[5275]: X server for display :0 terminated unexpectedly
Jun 15 14:05:07 localhost kdm[5275]: Display :0 cannot be opened
Jun 15 14:05:07 localhost kdm[5275]: Unable to fire up local display :0; disabling.

From kdm log
Code:
(==) Using config file: "//xorg.conf"
(EE) Failed to load module "vesa" (module does not exist, 0)
(EE) No drivers available.

Fatal server error:
no screens found

I have reemerged xorg-server with -vesa as a use flag.

There are no errors in Xorg.log.

Here is my xorg.conf
Code:

If I try startkde I get a bunch of errors. If I type startx it will load but my mouse is frozen.

I'm been googling and searching the board and can't find anything.

Thanks!

Try to only run X ("X"), i.e. not startkde or something, so that only X is starting without any desktop/wm. Check the X log in /var/log/Xorg.0.log for error messages afterwards.

Ok, I had several.

xf860 open console setpgid operation not permitted
xf860 open console setsid operation not permitted
warning couldn't open module vesa
Failed to load module vesa (module does not exist)
No drivers found
Fatal Screen error
No screens found.

I can boot into kde with nvidia now and it works but I get to run level three and then I have to log in and type startx

Ok, I just have one thing that I hope someone can help me with. I removed the nvidia drivers, compile vesa, edited make.conf and did emerge new --use world which recompile the xorg-server and kde base. And now I can log in and everything works but I get an error.

It's
Code:
The compositite Manager could not be started.  Make sure you have kompmgr in a $PATH directory.

I'm not going to use xcomposite at all. So if anybody can tell me how to fix this I'd be really greatful.

I already deleted it. But maybe I'll add it back in and put disable and see if that works.

I tried adding it back in and putting "false" in there and still get the same message. Anybody else?
