When I plug in my Palm Treo it mostly isn't recognized by the system (according to lsusb). It always worked for me, but last few I have more troubles. Any ideas how I can solve / troubleshoot this problem? _________________ Please add [solved] to the initial post's subject line if you feel your problem is resolved. Help answer the unanswered

I tried syncing in Windows which worked fine. Therefor I don't think it's an hardware problem. Back in Linux my Palm syncs only 1 out of 10 times. _________________ Please add [solved] to the initial post's subject line if you feel your problem is resolved. Help answer the unanswered |

Thanks for the hints. However the problem is of different nature. Apparently my Palm doesn't get recognized anymore. When I press the hotsync button it very rarely shows up in lsusb _________________ Please add [solved] to the initial post's subject line if you feel your problem is resolved. To get an idea, this is the phase where I get stuck:
Code: | Phase 1: Making Linux recognize the PDA
First, plug the PDA into the system and hit the hotsync button on the PDA. As root, run lsusb and see if anything comes up involving Palm, Visor, or PDAs. If so, great. If you don't see any output related to your PDA, you most likely have a hardware problem. Make sure everything is plugged in snugly, try a different USB port on your computer, try a different device in that port and see if that shows up in lsusb, etc. |

I have tried different ports to no avail. The USB ports work fine with other equipment. And the Palm did sync in Windows _________________ Please add [solved] to the initial post's subject line if you feel your problem is resolved. Help answer the unanswered |

So, check what udev is doing. Debug udev.
Code: | udevcontrol log_priority=debug |

Thanks for the quick reply. What does that command do? Where can I find the output? _________________ Please add [solved] to the initial post's subject line if you feel your problem is resolved. Help answer the unanswered |

Welcome to the www. There's a great tool called Google.
For the output, look wherever your logger logs. This is probably /var/log/messages |

There is no need to become sarcastic. I couldn't find any helpful information with google. And I couldn't find the udev log in /var/log. That is why I asked. _________________ Please add [solved] to the initial post's subject line if you feel your problem is resolved. Help answer the unanswered |

Thus far I tried:
-Different kernels
-Inserting a USB PCI board from my other PC
None of these worked. My Palm shows up 1 time out every 5 hotsync presses.
My /var/log messages after pressing 'udevcontrol log_priority=debug' _________________ Please add [solved] to the initial post's subject line if you feel your problem is resolved. Help answer the unanswered

I think I have solved the problem It was the virtualbox module which was wreaking havoc: vboxdrv I removed it from /etc/modules.autoload.d/kernel-2.6 rebooted and I could normally sync my Palm again.
Edit:
I have filed a bugreport _________________ Please add [solved] to the initial post's subject line if you feel your problem is resolved. Help answer the unanswered |
