DNS doesn't resolve locally

I have a peculiar problem, which came about, at the time we moved. I'm no longer able to surf on to our own domain, from our own network. Neither can our Asterisk resolve the DNS of our VoIP provider, but it works fine with the IP of the domain. However, i am able to ping my VoIP providers DNS from both the Asterisk server, and the acting gateway. My users connect through a gateway, which runs with Iptables. On the gateway resides the webserver as well, and coming from within the network, (meaning connection to WAN throug eth1 > eth0), mydomain.dk doesn't resolve. Outside users are able to see the website though.

Earlier i had some problems with files included with PHP include, since i've given a DNS path to the include file (www.mydomain.dk/inc/file.to.include). That failed, untill i added www.mydomain.dk to the /etc/hosts file. Eventhough i added the DNS to my VoIP provider in the same file, the Asterisk where not able to resolve the DNS. This had not been a problem before we moved, so the configuration of the Asterisk should be okay. Ping and Nslookup all looks fine, but traceroute fails (or at least takes to damn long). Traceroute from the Asterisk seems to stop at the gateway. Traceroute from the gateway to the VoIP provider fairs alot better, though it never finishes, but at least it reaches the WAN and further from my ISP.

These things makes me think, that there is something disrupting DNS calls on my gateway, but apparently only for mydomain.dk and the DNS of our VoIP provider (for registring the phonenumbers). I suspect an update might have changed something, and after the reboot this has taken effect.

If anyone can shed a bit of light over this problem, it would be really appreciated.

What nameservers are set in /etc/resolv.conf for you and your users? Do you have an internal server that is an caching DNS server? Is named running on that server? Can it resolve properly?

You mention that ping and nslookup works; were you specifying an IP or a name?
