|
|
Is there a way to specify a configuration for HAL? The latest version (sys-apps/hal-0.5.9-r1) appears to detect *all* the partitions on my disk and automatically mounts the ones that aren't in fstab.
If I had wanted Windows partitions to be mounted at boot (or ever) I'd have put them into fstab. This is annoying, and it causes the disk mounter applet to take up an enormous portion of my top panel. The disk mounter applet has always been useful, but now it's out of control. It even has an icon for the /boot partition, which it has always been Gentoo policy *not* to mount.
I just want to be able to tell HAL what it can automatically mount. Or more importantly, what it *can't* mount. Is there a way?
Also, is there a way to control the disk mounter applet? |

Mine mounts EVERYTHING!!! and its extremely ammoying. Its filling up my desktop with stupid icons everywhere
There is seriously NOTHING, NOWHERE. There seems to be absolutely NO way to stop this. Apparently HAL now doesnt care about whats in fstab before it mounts. even my gentoo partitions are being mounted by hald. Why is this happening? ![Sad :(](images/smiles/icon_sad.gif) |

Actually i was able to stop them from mounting by adding the following lines to my /etc/fstab
/dev/sdb1 none none noauto 0 0
/dev/sdb3 none none noauto 0 0
/dev/sda1 none none noauto 0 0
Not exactly a perfect fix. The entries still show up in computer:///, though they are unmountable. There is also an icon in computer:/// for my 64 bit gentoo boot partition as well (There are two of them, one for my 32 bit, and one for my 64 bit)/ I would really like to find a better fix than this though. |

I managed to prevent them from mounting by deleting their mount point. I mount all my removable media in /mnt (as God intended) and HAL wants to mount them under /media. I just removed the /media directory and they don't automount anymore.
However, they do still fill up my task bar with icons. Grrr. |

I'm not sure if this is at all related but I had my settings set to "auto" in the fstab - gnome-volume-manager never put it on the desktop. If I cd'd to /mnt/partition, it was there. Recently I thought I don't think I'll need that mounted all the time and set "auto" to "noauto" next startup gnome-volume-manager mounted on the desktop the partition. I'm not sure why. _________________ • Helpful Linux Tidbits |

Ok. i've solved both problems.
For automount usb key:
