so it is installed but with an empty sasldb2
is that ok or does anyone has a clue how to fix this

That's a normal part of the install process. It's in the pkg_postinst function in the ebuild. The problem is, saslpasswd2 died, and the error message you received sucks (not the ebuild's fault, though). It might be due to berkdb. cyrus-sasl has had problems with it before. Complete guess, though. Still, what versions of sys-libs/db do you have installed?

Well, I thought maybe you didn't have the latest db, which solved the cyrus-sasl/db problems reported on Bugzilla. I suppose you could try fiddling with USE flags, like enabling 'gdbm' instead of 'berkdb', or turning others on and off.

i turned of berkdb and used gdbm instead.
now it works
