Code:

# equery f pidgin | grep jabber
/usr/lib64/purple-2/libjabber.la
/usr/lib64/purple-2/libjabber.so
/usr/lib64/purple-2/libjabber.so.0
/usr/lib64/purple-2/libjabber.so.0.0.0

In the list of protocols in finch only these appear: aim, icq, irc, simple, xmpp, yahoo and zephir.

Code:

# emerge -va pidgin

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild   R   ] net-im/pidgin-2.0.2  USE="crypt dbus gnutls ncurses nls perl sasl spell ssl startup-notification xscreensaver -avahi -bonjour -debug -doc -eds -gadu -groupwise -gstreamer -gtk -meanwhile -msn -networkmanager -prediction -qq -silc -tcl -tk -zephyr" 0 kB

Total: 1 package (1 reinstall), Size of downloads: 0 kB

Would you like to merge these packages? [Yes/No]

Any idea?

Thanks.

Ok, I have no idea about IM, it seems that xmpp is jabber, that is fine. Now I would like to figure out how the crap do I login in this program.

After creating the sheet for my account in finch, I am greeted again with the account list, where I can add/del/modify my account, and nothing more. I restart a couple of times and the same. After the third restart, I get my contact list. I choose the state "available" and nothing happens. My contact list remains empty.

My advice: never ever use the ncurses flag when emerging pidgin.
