Hi !
I have some performance issues while writing to DVD-RAM media. I have an LG ATAPI drive on a JMicron PATA/SATA controller. I use the libata driver, not the old one.
I formatted the disc using mkudffs and mounted it rw. Using mc I copied several large files on the dvd-ram. Up to this point everything worked fine.
The first few hundred MB went really fast, probably due to caching, but the rest was extremely slow. MC showed a transfer rate of about 400 kb/s. From my experience on Windows the comination of medium and recorder that I use reaches at least 1,5 MB /s. On top of that my whole system froze every few seconds for one or two seconds. It's just like old times with PIO mode drives. I couldn't even move the mouse pointer. The whole process took nearly two hours.
On the other hand, when writing a normal ISO image with K3B on a DVD+R medium everything works just fine.
Any suggestions? |

I have got EXACTLY the same problem. My DVD drive is a NEC dvd-rw ND-4551A.
I also realized that, for some reason, a DVD-RAM formatted with UDF filesystem is even slower
than the same disc with ext2. but sometimes ext2 fails writing, goes into read-only mode, and needs
a unmount/mount cycle to become writable again.
read operation runs well, 1.5 - 2 MB/s. writing is really a pain.
any ideas?
thanks.
P.S.: DVD-RAM drives has an optional hardware write verification feature. how can I enable/disable it?
maybe this could give some help... |
