Ok, this is bizarre. My Firefox 2.0.0.4 will accept most displayed pages as startup pages but not http://www.gentoo.org. It also won't take http://www.overheaddoor.com/
Any idea why this behavior? I've been using gentoo.org for years.

I just checked and mine is doing the same thing, but only for http://www.gentoo.org/

www.gentoo.org, http://gentoo.org/ , http://www.gentoo.org will work (note the lack of a trailing /)
As soon as I add the trailing / the input gets deleted.

http://www.overheaddoor.com/ worked fine for me though.

I tried http://www.gentoo.org without the trailing "/" and that worked.
Still an odd behavior, though, isn't it?

Indeed. I tried starting firefox in safe-mode with the same results.
I renamed ~/.mozilla and then it worked, so I'm thinking it's something
to do with history and URI auto-completion in the preferences dialog possibly,
which would explain your issue with both http://www.gentoo.org and
http://www.overheaddoor.com.

BTW - www.overheaddoor.com seems very familiar to me, are you the developer
for that site and perhaps were in the #css channel on freenode a while back?
