Hello,

I just emerged kaffeine and wanted to play a wmv file.
If I do so, I get the error: Loading of player part 'XinePart' failed.
Did anybody had the same error and could tell me what's the solution?!

Cheers

you should probably have these in your /etc/make.conf

win32codecs wma wmf

also emerge this

[ebuild R ] media-libs/win32codecs-20050216 USE="quicktime real" 12,581 kB

I followed you instructions and added win32codecs wma wmf to /etc/make.conf

USE="quicktime real" emerge media-libs/win32codecs
emerge --unmerge kaffeine
emerge --newuse kaffeine

Sadly, this did change nothing :-(

you might need to re-emerge parts of xine or xine-libs

kaffeine is just the frontend, and xine-ui is just another frontend. You will want to remerge your xinelib with the correct useflag added to it.

emerging kaffeine with newuse won't do the job, you'd have to emerge --newuse -D kaffeine (to upgrade any dependencies in the chain)

Also I suggest not doing a USE="quicktime real" before the win32codecs but if you only want to add those flags to that package put

media-libs/win32codecs quicktime real in your /etc/portage/package.use

As far as WMA goes, you can probably play that with a default copy of the current xinelib (or maybe that's only the ~x86 version? Not sure since I'm using a cvs ebuild I made myself)

xanas3712,

I did what you suggested but I still get the same error: Loading of player part 'XinePart' failed. All video drivers failed to initalize!
