Darwin Streaming Server web GUI hangs at the very beginning

I have emerged the latest DSS (5.5.5) from this ebuild on bugzilla: https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=84011
(and I have tried building it from scratch as well)

basically, the problem is the same: once I try to access the web interface ( http :// server :1220 ) the perl script (dss-admin) will hang trying infinitely to load parse_xml.cgi for the "Setup Assistant" pages.

I'm running perl 5.8.8, on a 32bit, i686 architecture.

Darwin itself seems to be running, however, I didn't have a chance to try if it is working or not, without access to the gui.

Any ideas anyone?
