im only getting 30-40 constant fps on my gentoo system.. sooo heres what i did. at first i downloaded the newest nvidia file from nvidia.com .. nivida-1.xxx.run.. i installed it, (it didnt work, and i wonder why, i forgot to insmod nvidia) anyways then i did emerge nvidia-glx, and emerge nvidia-kernel.. w/e ... so i start up x, and try to play quake3. it tells me it cant find the GL subsystem or something and someone tells me to do opengl-update nvidia or something.. i try that, it still doesnt work. so i emerge unmerge nvidia-kernel and glx... then i download the nvidia drivers again, run them.. load the module and everything works. but i go to look @ my fps and im getting this horrible framerate. when i had slackware i got somewhere between 99-125. Is this because emerge didnt get rid of some of the libGL files and they are being used or what? 40 fps is not cool at all, i want linux for quake3, and a few other games.. but im gonna need to see some performance. when i had slackware... q3 ran soooo much better than it did on windows. but now its run like poop. help me!!!
