Hi!
I' m new here. I've tried to install gentoo and at booting everything was going normal (I think ), but when i started to ping "www.gentoo.org" it was saying "ping: unknown host www.gentoo.org".
I looked again at the RX and TX (/sbin/ifconfig) and it wasn't showing anything.
I' ve tried ewerything in the handbook, but it doesn't working.
Is it a problem with compatibility with my network card considering that computer is a 10 year old, and the card is 1 year old?

Are you booting from the livecd or already into your own system?

You did not say which step of the install you were, I will assume this one:
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/handbook-x86.xml?part=1&chap=3
Do you have DSL router? modem?
You probably need to find out which network card/chipset you have. If you don't know, you can try lspci it shows you the list of all devices. You can also run lsmod from the install CD and it will show you what drivers the liveCD have loaded (but a bit harder to decipher). A third option is dmesg and see the boot process messages.
There is also the option of network-less install if you can download the bigger install CD. But better to find out if your network card is supported. _________________ "May God stands between you and harm in all the empty places where you must walk" - Babylon 5 |

i've tried the but it show that the connection had timed out, as for the network card, it was registred in the boot with the driver "e100". I will try to borrow tomorrow another card and maybe it' ll work better.
Can another card change the situation? |

That might help. Check the patch cable while you're at it. _________________ Horse sense is the thing that keeps horses from betting on people. --W.C. Fields
