Glad you found the problem.
It's easy to blame the distro when things happens and you don't have enough understanding to isolate the problem.
Sometimes posts like this makes me snicker.. No offense, starnix.
I hope you replace that HD and stay with gentoo, you'll have a lot of fun here if you really want too...

I don't mind all the goodbye posts so much. It's really a great community and I can see why people would want to say goodbye if they had to leave. I do mind the fact that many of these posts manage to change the chat forums to support forums in a somewhat subversive way. Please try finding a solution in a support forum when you have a problem like this. I think I might just lock/move posts that say things like, "I can't take it anymore! I'm leaving because I can't su to root and I keep getting an error message that says XYZ!"
I'm glad you got a solution to your problem starnix.
