After migrating from gentoo-sources-2.6.18-r3 to gentoo-sources-2.6.20-r8 my second processor is no longer detected.

Have you set up SMP (Symetric Multiprocessor) support yet?

You can do that in menuconfig under processor types(??).

Once you select SMP you can tell it how many processors you want to set up.

Sounds like maybe something may be misconfigured a touch.

Hi drasnor,
I noticed this in your .config:
Code:
CONFIG_MK7=y
# CONFIG_MK8 is not set

I am not using AMD myself but as far as I know MK7 =athlon xp
and MK8 is dual core.
Gerard.

The config all looks fine to me (Gerard - K7 is for Athlon XP/MP and K8 is Opteron) and it's obviously running in SMP mode and trying to access the second CPU. Have you checked that it still works okay with the old kernel (and that the CPU/motherboard haven't failed)? If all's okay there then try disabling APIC and seeing whether that helps (you should be able to do this by specifying noapic on the grub boot line).

Now this is just getting weird. With High Memory Support set to 'Off' and Memory model set to 'Flat Memory', both processors are detected and activated but only 900MB of so of my 2GB of memory is detected. With High Memory Support set to '4GB' and Memory Model set to 'Flat Memory' only one of the processors is detected but all of the memory is properly detected.

EDIT: appending noapic to the kernel line in grub.conf didn't help unfortunately.

Problem solved: setting High Memory Support to '4GB' and Memory model to 'Sparse Memory' gets me all of my processors and memory. I guess flat memory isn't for SMP machines with lots of RAM.
