|
|
Firstly, let me thank all other posters who unknowingly let me leech information and helped me greatly in setting up Gentoo. Secondly, let me just publicly announce that I'm pretty noobish so be nice!
Now for my problem: I have successfully setup XFree86 for use with my ATI-Radeon 9000 card using DRM. All is well and good when I run applications as a regular user. The problem occurs when I need to run programs that use XFree as root. I read in another post that there may be a problem with permissions in XF86Config but I have:
Section "DRI"
Mode 0666
EndSection
When trying to run glxgears and glxinfo as root ,I receive a "command not found". I'm assuming a path problem I run /usr/X11R6/bin/glxinfo and receive the following error:
Quote: | Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: No protocol specified
Error: unable to open display (null)
|
However, as a regular user it works perfectly.
I hope you all can help. I know you have in the past! |

Nothing wrong with beeing a noob, we have all been
The issue is that you have not given root permnission to connect to the server.
try this (as the user you start X as)
xhost +localhost
Then try to run glxgears as root (btw, you don't have to be root to run glxgears)
Oh, I'm moving this from Multimedia to Desktop
