Hello all,
I have been searching for over an hour, all over the place, and I cannot find any information about this video card. I am in the market for a new laptop and the one I am looking at is runing an nvidia geforce 8600m gt graphics card. According to nvidia's tech specs page says that this card works under Linux, but that is all that I can find. I would assume that the regular nvidia driver would work, but have yet to find anyone that is running this card (i saw someone in here that is running the 8600m, but not the gt). Since I run only Gentoo on my machines (nothing really impressive about what I do) I just want to make sure that the Nvidia driver will work, I can't stand grainy graphics. This would be a deal breaker for me if it does not work under Gentoo. With configuration time what it is in this distro I just want to make sure that this card works. Anyone have this card working? Does this card work?
Any help is apreciated. |

I can't say for 100% sure that it will work, but according to nVidia's Supported GPU Products for linux driver 100.14.11 page ... it is supported:

GeForce 8600M GT 0x0407

I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work with Gentoo seeing as it is a binary driver directly from nVidia you would be installing that claims to support the chip. |

wouldnt worry too much about it. Nvidia in general tends to have very good drivers
in my experience. if 8800 has some support then 8600 is almost a given. |
