useability problems with tvout and seperate screens

I have a GeForce4 with tv-out configured to use two different screens. I use two different screens to be able to have different resolutions. This works just fine, but I have a few annoying problems to deal with:

1. When I switch to the console, the tvout display doesn't work. I'm not sure whether this can be fixed, but if it could, I'd love to know how.

2. When I play a movie fullscreen with totem on the tv-out, everything works just fine, untill I want to do some work on my normal screen. As soon as I click on anything in screen 0 (crt display), the gnome-panel pops up on screen 1 (tvout). You can probably understand that this is *quite* annoying. I want to able to use X as I would normally, while other people are watching a movie on the tv-out.

I'm running xfree 4.3, gnome 2.3.2, with totem 0.98.
I was wondering if this problem is gnome specific, or that similar problems occur with other wm's / de's
