Hey guys I'm trying to get my wireless card working with Gentoo.
I am not very good at understanding networking, all the more wireless. I think that I've successfully gotten my ipw2200 card to work
Code:
# dmesg | grep ipw2200
ipw2200: Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200/2915 Network Driver, 1.2.0k
ipw2200: Copyright(c) 2003-2006 Intel Corporation
ipw2200: Detected Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection
ipw2200: Radio Frequency Kill Switch is On:
ipw2200: Detected geography ZZM (11 802.11bg channels, 0 802.11a channels)
Now I've also installed NetworkManager. It connects me to the wired network without a problem, and detects all the wireless networks around me, but when I click on one and try to type in the password nothing happens. Any suggestions as to what I should do?

Might not have anything to do with your problem but... are you sure your wireless router offers DHCP services or should you manually configure your wireless interface?

well with windows I think that it automatically assigns an IP address because I don't have to put anything besides a password once I choose the right network.

How about checking /var/log/messages to see if NetworkManager is logging anything after you enter the network key? If there's something there, try posting it. Without some more info, anything one might say now would just be guessing. Also, what kind of network protection are you using? Is it WEP or WPA? If you are using WPA, remember you will need to have wpa_supplicant set up.

Regards.
