I am trying to copy and mount a music cd.
I have both tried using k3b and dd , but I have no clue on whats wrong
Code: | localhost fredrik # dd if=/dev/hdc of=/home/fredrik/ut.iso
dd: reading `/dev/hdc': Input/output error
0+0 records in
0+0 records out
0 bytes (0 B) copied, 0.0109078 s, 0.0 kB/s |
Code: |
localhost fredrik # mount -t iso9660 -o loop,user /home/fredrik/k3b_2.img /mnt/iso
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/loop0,
missing codepage or other error
In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
dmesg | tail or so
|
Code: |
localhost fredrik # dmesg | tail
ide: failed opcode was: unknown
ATAPI device hdc:
Error: Illegal request -- (Sense key=0x05)
Illegal mode for this track or incompatible medium -- (asc=0x64, ascq=0x00)
The failed "Read 10" packet command was:
"28 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 02 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 "
end_request: I/O error, dev hdc, sector 0
Buffer I/O error on device hdc, logical block 0
Buffer I/O error on device hdc, logical block 1
Unable to identify CD-ROM format. |
Code: |
localhost fredrik # modprobe loop
FATAL: Module loop not found.

Unless it's "enhanced" with extra junk like a music video or something, a music CD doesn't have an iso9660 filesystem. They don't really have any filesystem, and you can't mount them. So, dumping data into a file and calling it an iso won't work. _________________ Thomas S. Howard |

But is it impossible?
I did this in winxp without any problems.
But I had to use some other format than iso though. |

You just ripped the CD. I know windows does that little trick where it pretends each track is a file, but they're really not. There are plenty of tools to extract and re-encode CD audio. You just can't treat them as if they were a filesystem. _________________ Thomas S. Howard |

I use package "abcde" to rip - pretty happy with it. |
