Remove email attachments from archived email ?

I have just pulled all the email for last year from our courier imap server. we need to keep the email just in case, but not the attachments.

Is there an easy way of stripping attachments ?

i only know of the option in thunderbird to detach attachments from emails on a imap server.
if that works locally, well, i don't know. maybe you should push them back to (some) imap server, then detach the stuff, and archive it afterwards.
