Hi, during my system update of my portage packages I noticed that new kernel sources got emerged. My previous kernel was 2.6.20-r8, and the new version was 2.6.21-r4.
Anyway, I compiled the new kernel manually and installed the new boot image under /boot/kernel-2.6.21-r4, but my nvidia drivers don't seem to work properly now. The nvidia symbol still loads at startup but when I try to play divx files using -vo gl it runs very slowly at full screen, when previously it had no trouble rendering my simpsons episodes in full screen using opengl.

I assume this is an issue with the new kernel and opengl and/or the nvidia drivers, but I have tried unmerge and remerging them without any success. Another thing which stopped working after my emerge --sync / emerge --update --deep world was beryl, which began display the white desktop cube when loaded. To be more precise beryl actually stopped working when I rebooted my PC straight after my system packages update, but before I installed the new kernel, however I noticed mplayer wouldn't work properly after the new kernel was installed.

Any help debugging this problem would be appreciated. I am more concerned with getting opengl working properly at this stage and then I will worry about beryl.

Cheers.

Obvious places to immediately look for errors:

/var/log/Xorg.0.log
/var/log/messages
~/.xsession-errors

You probably want:
Code:
eselect opengl set nvidia

Yes, you're right. I tried this straight after I posted the question and it worked
