Right now, if I download something and a connection error occurs, it pops up a windows "could not connect to X" and then stops the download. I have to manually restart it.

I have all warning messages off in the kGet config, as well as a permanent connection, 99 retries, and a 15min retry interval.

From KDE Bugzilla, the most relevant from your description:

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=49487

The other "resume" bugs are all fairly old (older than this one, and old relative to it)

there is only very old bug report.
nothing seems to have changed.
in my kget it starts download and after 1% or less it keeps saying stalled and never resumes. even if i stop and start. reboot also does not help.

Do large downloads from the same HTTP server work correctly with other programs, like net-misc/curl and net-misc/wget? I ask because the answer will differentiate between a problem with kGet and a generic problem with downloading large files from the relevant web servers.
