Does it even work with wine(x)? If it does, I will be very happy! This game kicks major arse. |

From transgaming.com:

It doesn't "require" DirectX 9. Anyway, the game currently works in CVS, but is not installable. So the only way to get to play it is to copy it over from a Windows installation (I installed in Windows XP using VMWare, and copied it from there). |
I'll try it out later... Though it's really a 'basic' game engine-wise, by the looks of things... So hopefully this is correct! |

Not for me. With the WineX cvs
Code: |
err:win32:_EnterSysLevel (0x408ac0d4, level 2): Holding 0x4096338c, level 3. Expect deadlock!
err:seh:EXC_DefaultHandling Exception frame is not in stack limits => unable to dispatch exception.

I have never tried it, and don't have a copy to test it out. The only thing I use WineX for currently is Counter Strike, and for that it works great. |

I get this strange error whenever I try to run pretty much anything in the new WineX CVS. I also get other errors and so I suspect that there's something wrong with the build.
I'm running Gentoo 1.1a with:
gcc 2.95.3-r8 and
glibc 2.2.5-r8
Code: | 415 - 08070b68:err:module:BUILTIN32_dlopen failed to load .so lib for builtin advapi32.dll: /usr/lib/winex-cvs/lib/libadvapi32.so: undefined symbol: CreateSemaphoreA

Any ideas? |

blk_jack: thats extremely old! why not update to newer gcc and glibc, maybe better to get a 1.4 cd and install from there, probably unrelated to the game problem, but man, that's old! |

As far as emerge -u world is concerned I am up-to-date. Just not GCC 3.X.
I'm biding my time and waiting for the right moment before I have to recompile all my packages or repartition. Perhaps when 1.4 is FINALLY out |

well there will be vice city support in the next version according to transgaming:
Transgaming wrote: |
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City: While this game was only released a few days before this report was written, it went from an initial vote proposal to fully-seconded, faster than almost anything else we've ever seen. As such, we thought it would be worth a quick look even before the June polls open for it. TransGaming's development team rolled up their sleeves and went to work, and with a minimal effort, was able to enjoy playing this latest Rockstar Games offering. GTA Vice: City still has a few a few rough edges remaining but we expect that it will be playable for the next WineX release.

Just copied over a gta3 vc install from a windows box (the installer doesnt seem to work contrary to the one used with gta3 which does)
using the last winex-cvs the game runs "fine" (bit unstable and with the usual performance drop with d3d+winex)
However, it seemed playable (providing you have a fast pc)
kernel 2.5.70 (mm3)/xfree 4.3-r2/glibc 2.3.2-r1 (I do have to throw away the socket dir every time I used winex) _________________ In "old" Europe we already have a word for "pre-emptive strikes" mr Bush: its called "war" |

Hm, I've recently switched over to Gentoo 1.4rc4 from 1.1a (new gcc, etc, recompiled the whole system) and WineX-CVS still fails to work.
I get the same error as before, what gives! It was mentioned in the Winex forums but the guy who replied said it was a pthreads error, which I think is incorrect.
I have this suspicion that the winex-cvs ebuild isn't updating my cvs properly.
Oh well, I'm recompiiling winex-cvs right now, so I'll reply after telling my status. |

Well with the latest WineX cvs I get the same error I was getting before (look up a couple of posts). Counterstrike, as always, works fine though. |

If You Subscribe To Transgaming's Services, Which i Do, You May Notice That They Have Released Version 3.1 Of Winex. Using The Latest Point2Play And Winex Tarball(s) Have Worked Excelently On My Machine. I Am Using A Pentium 4 1.7GHz And I Have To Say It Runs Almost As Well On Linux As It Does On Windows. I Did Have A Sound Problem Though, Which May Have Been My Outdated Alsa. Overall, Vice City Under Linux Is Easy, And You Should Subscribe To Transgaming Technologies' Service Because They Work Hard To Keep Games Supported Under Linux. _________________ --

I added "Desktop" = "800x600" to my wine config and ran it up and it works hehe seems to be ok the fps doesn't seem as good as windows tho but it does work
I'm running it from my windows drive in linux, didn't need to copy the game over or anything.
Seem to have one problem which is when the character is outside of the car he seems to be walking forwards all the time

I have gotten both GTA3 and Vice City to work, even with their installer, no need for any windows installation and copieng
Performance is awsome, FPS is even sometimes better than under Windows, woot! So yes there is hope, shouldn't be any problem at all to play it. _________________ DnB is my religion, Jungle is my church. |
