HI everyone, i finally got my first linux running for a month now. Yes its gentoo :p
So now i started to use my linux box for hosrtin HL server for couple months(this summer). I got everything run like a charm, but... if i dont run the server as root it cant download secure thing(VAC).
so lets say i start server:
Code:

cool@blue $ ./hlds_run -game cstrike +maxplayers 16 +map de_dust

Downloading Security Module from Speakeasy.net ...
Completed downloading Security Module from Speakeasy.net
Server is in Secure Mode.
Error downloading Security Module from Speakeasy.net
Server is not Secure.

but when i start the server in root, it CAN download the secure (VAC) so i think its matter of permission thing. what should i do to fix this? (run HL server in cool acct) as running it in root is not safe.

PS. also this would help for future plan as if i want to run a program thats auto-updated thro internet in user account (NOT root).

Thankx,
-cool-

I dont understand how would that fix it. I want to understand what i'm doing and as i know if i give the HL folder permission, it will make all the files has that permission nothing special. But i will give it a shot.

Some one please give me an idea.....
