Hi,

like described in http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_D-BUS,_HAL,_KDE_media:/#Tips_.26_TricksI, I had to re-emerge kioslaves after emerging dbus-qt3-old to get my USB-disk to work. Now, if I plug in my USB hard drive, KDE asks me what to do with it (e.g. open in a new window). But if I plug in my camera or insert a CD/DVD, nothing happens.

I have emerged hal and dbus, added both of them to the default runlevel and added my user to cdrom, cdrw, usb and plugdev.
I tried removing the fstab-entry for the cdrom drive, with no success. With

Code:
/dev/hda     /media/cdrom     auto     noauto,user     0 0

I can mount CDs manually, so it's not a missing PATA driver problem or something.

When I plug in my camera, lshal -m says

Code:
13:14:10.233: usb_device_4cb_19b_592D3131303006101083C3304128E8 added
13:14:10.279: usb_device_4cb_19b_592D3131303006101083C3304128E8_if0 added

so it's detected.

I don't know whether these problems are related, but I'm guessing it's a general KDE issue.

Any ideas?

Thanks, siik

Have you checked your media applet preferences?

What do you mean? KControl -> Peripherals -> Storage Media? (I've got a German version, so maybe it's just called Media or Storage)

I can't select "activate HAL" and "activate CD-polling" or whatever it's called because they are greyed. But hald is running, so I guess that's a KControl bug.

Partly solved: I recompiled my kernel with CONFIG_FUSE_FS=y, now the camera works. Problem with CDs persists, though.
