(hdb is the dvd name)
I started it again, but the same happened after a while. Also checked a different media - the same. Is the drive broken?
Thanks. |

It may just need a hard reset, given that it's complaining about media errors rather than more sinister things. Try a shutdown and restart. _________________ Matthew Steven

Did you enable "Packet writing on CD/DVD media" in the kernel? If it's yes and you chose to build a module, try to rmmod pktcdvd, then test if the errors reoccur. _________________ Thomas S. Howard |

mattsteven, reset didn't change anything...

I don't know how you did it, but it worked! Any explanation why it helps?
Thanks, didymos. |

I've just had the same problem with reading things when the pktcdvd module is loaded. I haven't checked into why it does that, since it's really just a minor annoyance. If you're writing, or at least if I'm writing, discs, it works great and I haven't had a problem with it. I think it's only certain drives that run into trouble, but I'm not sure about that. One thing that will make it do this is having an audio CD in the drive, but I've run into it now and then w/ data discs too. _________________ Thomas S. Howard |
