go to www.transgaming.com and check out what they say. The list is pretty long and a lot of games sort of work so check ou their message boards for specific games and such. |

I have winex3.
1.2 Ghz, GF3, 280Mb ram, Gentoo 1.4.
Deusex runs with ~25 frames in 640*480, on 1024*768 it's less than 10fps
Halflife does not run at all : it shows a black screen with a somehow corrupted game menu and that's it. I have to kill wine to recover my system.
All in all very disappointing !
(And I followed the tutorials on the net, don't know why it does not work |

Damn, I really have to install Winex3, this would mean I could dump my 5 Gb Windows partition and make something usefull of it. BTW I've played trough Jedi Knight II four times and it's still a grat game. I just love it. I'm really waiting for the Jedi Academy part. _________________ A bus station is where a bus stops, a train station is where a train stops. On

Why did Transgaming release a product when a new glibc was coming out and all the Distro's changed to it.
That's probably the biggest problem of playing anything on it. |

Hrm, not sure what version of glibc you are referring to but here is what Transgaming had to say at the release of 3.0 when glibc was at version 2.3.1: Quote: | Recent changes to glibc have been causing WineX problems for a number of
releases. Finally they've changed it in a way that we couldn't continue with
our historical implementation of threading. Thus we've decided to switch to
using POSIX Thread (or pthreads for short) library for our programs. It also
helps that the implementation of pthreads on Linux has gotten a major overhaul
and is now much more standard compliant (and less buggy). WineX 3.0 will
attempt to determine if your platform is suitable for using pthreads for
threading. |
I know glibc had broken WineX in the past, and some people were still complaining about problems with the 3.0 Pre-Release but all problems seem to be gone with the newest release. I personally play Day of Defeat, Counter-Strike, and Jedi Knight 2 flawlessly. GTA Vice City and Medal of Honor Allied Assault also run with only minor problems. |

I couldn't get DeusEx to run on Winex3, however: it runs on Wine perfectly in opengl mode. It has some slight GFX display errors which i blame on the buggy OpenGL implementation of the Unreal Engine. But it runs very smooth in 800x600 with a gf2mx200 und 2ghz athlon
concerning Halflife: I use wine for that one, too. Runs smoothly and without any problems (haven't tried the various anti cheat stuff but everything else is just fine) |

Make sure you patch Deus Ex, in the original version the OpenGL stuff wasnt implemented yet... _________________ Many people call me Linux-freak, I just see me as a freak who uses Linux

Hi !
I have updated DeusEx to the newest version, and neither D3D nor OGL nor Software work fine
With wine I cannot run *any* game, it simply quits directly without displaying an error or something like that... don't ask me why
Does anyone have any ideas ? |

Well, for starters Wine isnt created for games, WineX is.
Patching the game shouldve worked, dont know why it didnt.....my suggestion would be to grab a gun and put a end to it all _________________ Many people call me Linux-freak, I just see me as a freak who uses Linux

Headhunter123- whats your fps if you turn off all unnecessary applications and do this:
Code: | mv .xinitrc .xinitrc_bk # if necessary
cat > .xinitrc
xterm -geometry -0+0 -e glxgears
<ctrl-d>
startx
|
This should start up X without a windowmanager, with an terminal on the upper right hand side, and glxgears running at the upper left hand side.
Every five seconds you should get info on what fps you are getting using glxgears. On my puter with GF3 at work I get like ~4500 fps ( maybe a bit less). Here at home with my mongopongo graphics card I get around 1100 fps.
Now this isnt what you'll get when you run a real game, but if you edit the file $jedi2root/GameData/jk2mpconfig.cfg and set the var cg_drawFPS so that its set to "1", you'll get an fps dump in the bottom corner of your screen while playing.
At work, before I twiddled my XF86Config and kernel I got around 45-47fps. Which was enough to play single and multiplayer.
If your fps is ok, your problem is at least not in your basic conf of your system, its in wine/config.
If your fps isnt ok, you might not have set the system to use your graphics cards hardware acceleration capability. er. take a look here: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/dri-howto.xml
Now you might already have known all this, in that case, please disregard this message _________________ http://blahonga.yanson.org - little geekblog

WineX game support seems to be a pretty hit and miss affair. A game may work acceptably for one person and not at all for another. There just doesn't seem to be enough consistency to compel me to part with $15. That and Transgaming thumbing their nose at the open source community are two good reasons I don't support them. |

It works very good for me.
It runs Warcraft III, Battlefield 1942, Commandos II, Settlers IV, Diablo II, Starcraft, Simcity 4, Simcity 3000 and Baldurs Gate 2 flawlessly for me.
It also runs Soldier of Fortune II and Deus Ex perfect for me, but that already worked using Wine.
Diablo II worked very good using wine, but Battle.Net play had some hitches. Everything is completely perfect using WineX.
Performance is all comparable to the performance in Windows, and the performance of Commandos II is even way better than that in windows, Windows gave me several visual glitches and wasn't completely smooth; using WineX is it.
All in all, I'm very satisfied with my WineX3 purchase. _________________ Pentium 4 Prescott 3,2 GHz

yep got that running as well. Although I havn't been able to install it directly, I had to copy over the DesertCombat dir from my win installation and it works great.
Only thing is with winex is that the copy protect doesnt work yet so you will need a noCD crack. I found one that would get me online with DC as well |
