X probs on new install

yesterday I recieved a new asus a7n8x as well as an AXP 2600+ and after assembling them I proceded to start reinstalling gentoo.

I let X as well as the kde-libs compile overnight and this morning woke up hoping to have a system again

X (4.3.0-r2) finished building but it will not run
I have the latest nvidia kernel and glx installed for my GF4 and the right modules/drivers selected in the config file

I am using fluxbox as my WM
X starts up without a prob and I can move the mouse around before the WM has come up but after that I lose all control and the machine hardlocks so that I must hit the button to reboot

after reading earlier threads I went into the BIOS and disabled fast writes but there still is no improvement

I am using the nforce2 agpgart from kernel 2.5.70

I would really appreciat any help you could give so I can have a system again
