hello there... i would like to be able to use mplayer to watch videos and movies while i'm setting up a new system and don't have X set up yet...is there also an irc client?? what are the prerequisites that have to be done in order to achieve this?? thanks in advance...

Mplayer can be outputted to framebuffer and it also has a irc system.

mplayer -vo help


That should give you a list of the supported video outputs....
Check your use flags to ensure you built it with support...

It's a very neat feature....

If you have framebuffer enabled, you can watch movies using mplayer without having Xorg installed.
