Hi,

I built an installation of gentoo 2.4 about 3 years, the machine has been off for all that time, when I turned it off everything was working perfectly.

Yesterday, I turned it on, thinking it would _just_work_, but sadly, there is a problem with my eth0.

The honest truth, I have forgotten a lot of what I did, way back, and need a point in the right direction.

I'm using a router with no wifi.
I connected the router with the same cable to another machine and no problems.

I suppose that I should mention, that while connected to the other machine, I was able to access it through ip 192.168.0.2. The gentoo reports problems with the eth0 and ip 192.168.0.10.

I -might- have deleted something from the router at that time, mainly because, I was worried that someone was trying to hack in.

Someone mentioned that I might also have a motherboard battery problem?

Any Ideas?

Thanks

not much to go on. can you post error messages?

is net.eth0 set to start automatically? "rc-update show" will tell you.

perhaps you are getting an IP collision? is your gentoo box using dhcp, is your router set to give out dhcp addresses?

maybe the contents of /etc/conf.d/net will give you some clues

Keep in mind, this is a machine with a 2.4 kernel and hasn't been updated for years. I doubt baselayout is up to date.
