Hello everyone !
I setup a website that let you search for ebuilds in portage overlay (gentoo, sunricer, sabayon, not empty overlays).
It's just the first draft so a bit... featureless but it may be usefull for some.
Tell me what you think and what kind of feature you want.

I'd like it if it were more like gentoo-portage.com but included ebuilds. The poll is rather biast though, where is the option for it not being useful? |

Yeah right I like it but it seems to me like freely available info, which the community should be able to do on an ad-free site. |

Nice look... although not exactly gentoo colors. I think it would be a better idea to help the gentoo-portage.com project instead of reproducing it. I know your functionality is a bit different, and you have more ebuilds, but that's all the more reason to work with them and make gentoo-portage.com better. |

I don't think that ads on ebuildfind really hurt that much |

why not. I started this project as an exercice with django, and I would like it to become more a portage frontend, than a simple search engine. |

hi short question:
the site doesnt work any more packages.gentoo.org
Is there a new homepage?
thx.
For your question:
It should be more on a page, more compact, and the overlays are only listened when i click e.g. on smplayer.
Maybe a plus next to the ebuild, when i click on it, then it should pop up.
Thx for your work, roman |

Like in a file browser. All ebuilds should be listened in a row, from top to bottom. When I click on a symbol next to the ebuild, the version_tag, the version should expand below, to see the ebuild versions available. |

Sorry, I didn't complete that sentence it seems . I meant to say I wish it was like gentoo-portage.com but included ebuilds from the overlays in layman. i.e. it showed use flags and such for one like gentoo-portage.com but was able to search a broader set of data (i.e. ebuilds in overlays as well as the official tree).

Er yeah well you wouldn't since you you're the one earning revenue from them. It's not so much the adverts on the side which are similar to the wiki, but for instance the adverts which break up the listing at http://amirouche.alwaysdata.net/browser/categories/ are intrusive.
As for adblock, not everyone is using firefox.
I also agree with others who've said it's better not to split effort; if gentoo-portage or packages doesn't do what you need, at least try to get involved with them first. If they are non-responsive to offers of help, or simply reject innovation that you think is useful, then it's reasonable to set up an alternative. If not, then it's just fragmentation imo.
Like I said though, I like it, including the colours. |

nice site. |
Thanks for the tips
Moreover, I was looking for something like live-ebuilds overlay. Bleeding edge !
I stopped syncing with layman-global.txt because, I was/is bit lazy, a couple of overlay are empty like breakmygentoo, and some others.
I have to find a smart way to update the db, because syncing overlays and updating "all" (which is not smart) the db takes some serious time. |

Latest ebuilds rss or at least a page would be great, like gentoo-portage, so that we could understand if it is worth to sync. _________________ Anyway it's all the same at the end...

The site has been down for a while. I found it really useful. Are there any plans to bring it back up? _________________ "Those who deny freedom to others deserve it not for themselves." - Abraham Lincoln
