Project is dead!

devnull overlay - For your bleeding edge gentoo desktop.

The devnull overlay provides scm-ebuilds (svn, cvs, git, hg) and snapshot-ebuilds for several packages in or not in portage.
It's not a pure overlay for scm-packages though, there are also ebuilds of packages who are not in portage like more recent versions and patched ones (like ubuntu or cleartype patchsets for font ebuilds).

Note: The scm-packages are masked per package.mask, you need to unmask them like "=cat/pkg-9999*" in /etc/portage/package.mask or /etc/paludis/package_mask.conf.
This is because the most people don't want the live version of all packages we have in our repo.

Support for font related ebuilds (cairo, fontconfig, freetype, libXft and poppler-glib) is provided in this thread, for all other stuff post here.

A list of all packages in the overlay can be found here: http://gentoo-overlays.zugaina.org/devnull/

Ohloh page: https://www.ohloh.net/p/devnull-overlay

Patches and suggestions are welcome. If you have a ebuild for some package and you want to see it in this repo, just post in this thread. Non-scm-packages are welcome too.

Are you interested in a fvwm-live ebuild?

It has also some patches, but all of them are optional, and configurable via use flags.

:)

I just made a screen-live ebuild. I had to redo some of the patches, and probably this needs more testing, since I can't test all of them. However, it now works in amd64. Tomorrow I can try x86. In the cvs version of screen you can split your terminals vertically, which is impossible if you use unpatched stable versions.

It's a *bit* late right now and there is no one in #live-ebuilds. I will try to contact tomorrow, you can test the ebuilds in the while when you wake up :) You can also add it to the svn yourself if you wish.

I also submitted an update for fvwm yesterday. There has been a lot of movement on its cvs repos lately and r16 would not compile anymore with the old patchset, so I also updated that.

Latest news:

- Added screen cvs ebild aka app-misc/screen-live
- Some things have been updated.
- The IRC channel of live-ebuilds is now #/dev/null at Rizon.
- Switched the SVN browser design to simple so you are able to browse it with konqueror as well.

Hey, I just reminded: are the issues with the screen-live ebuild fixed finally? Did my latest commit fix it?

I have a sys-process/htop-live ebuild that I could submit as well, if you think it is nice enough :)

Are you interested in games? I maintain a live ebuild for widelands.
Normal release are in games-strategy in portage.
My own ebuild is downloadable from the widelands website here.
I am afraid I don't do irc.

Where's the overlay? Still at the location mentioned on the first post? I can't seem to access it (no layman here, I am a paludis user). Thanks

Paludis and layman are mutually exclusive? :-/

Well, no, they aren't, but what's the point on using layman if I have to create the configuration of the repositories manually? Maybe I am missing something here, I don't know. Last time I used layman it would create an extra make.conf-like file which was sourced in the actual make.conf. This is not how paludis is told about repositories, but again, maybe you know something I don't and that can make my life easier.

use "playman" instead of "layman". Either via paludis-extras overlay or with the latest paludis builds.

I'm using the devnull overlay for more recent nvidia-drivers that work with kernel 2.6.25. I could emerge nvidia-drivers-173.08 without problems from the overlay, but since a few days portage wants to downgrade to its own version:

Code:

[ebuild     UD] x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-169.12 [173.08] USE="acpi gtk -custom-cflags (-multilib)" 9,952 kB [1=>0]

What could be the problem? Layman should be properly configured, I have

source /usr/portage/local/layman/make.conf

at the end of make.conf
