I got a new motherboard (Asrock 4Core-Dual) and get this message during boot up:
------------
MCFG area at e0000000 is not reserved
not using mmconfig
-------------
No splash and no vt's available.
In my kernel configuration I get that message when I've set pci mode - any. When I set it to "bios" the message disappears but the symptoms are the same. Fortunately the system boots. I once tried "direct" and it stuck after "uncompressing kernel".

As I've read so far, it seems to be a bios bug possibly related to something being reserved for PCI Express. But I've got no idea.
I've tried different boot parameters like acpi=on or off, noapic, nommconfig and so on without success.

I can post dmesg and kernel configuration if needed.[/b]

I used to get that. Different motherboard entirely, but the same message (different address though). The only thing that got rid of it was a BIOS update. Any available for that board yet?

Just went to their site and realised they have new updates. But it didn't work either. Maybe I have to wait for the next update ...

Oh, I feel so miserable - I just went through my kernel configuration again and discovered that I had framebuffer checked as module  .
My god, everything works now of course and I'm not sure if I could have solved the problem without Bios update. And don't ask me how often I compiled the kernel with different options in the last 2 days.

How often did you compile the kernel with different options in the last 2 days?
